Going on holiday can be? a stressful time for both pets and their owners. Even if you have left them 100 times before, there will always be those niggling doubts about whether or not you should leave them. Although pet passports are now more easily available, and travel within the EU is now relatively hassle free, you must understand that different climates could have an adverse affect on your pet?s health and there is often a higher risk of disease in foreign countries.
Because of this, you should think about placing your pet in the care of a company who are trained to look after animals and have the facilities which will mean that they can still go about their every day lives and routines without too much upheaval.
There are many places where you can find fantastic pet boarding facilities all over the country, many of whom will make your pet?s stay as comfortable as possible ? adhering to schedules decided upon by yourself and any diet requirements your pet may have.
Kathy Jenkins, who runs a service dedicated to animal boarding in Kent gives this advice:
?You should ensure that you go and look around the facilities before you agree to any contract, and if possible, put your pet in for a night?s stay before you leave for your holidays. This way you will be able to check that your pet is comfortable and safe and that they haven?t gone through any unnecessary stresses and strains. To make the stay more comfortable for them, include some of their favourite toys and snacks with the things you give the carers, as this will help to ease the transition and make them feel more at home.
You could also consider having a friend who the pet is familiar with visit over the course of your holiday, but you should check that this is appropriate with the carers before hand.?
