Programs focus on teen dating and violence prevention ...

February isn't only about Valentine's Day, it's also Teen Dating and Violence Awareness and Prevention month in many states. Supporters recognize the importance of education and awareness of domestic and sexual abuse and feel that teens in relationships need to know the signs or red flags that something within their own relationship isn't right.

Domestic violence impacts approximately 2.3 million people every year in the United States. Whether you are a man, woman, spouse, girlfriend or boyfriend, the violence could happen to you.

The media reports daily about unhealthy and abusive relationships and how it affects communities. There are trained professionals out there to help report and educate people, but many feel that it's everyone's responsibility to hold abusers accountable for their actions. Reporting abuse or witnessing abuse is an intervention strategy that is being taught to teens.

There are many organizations and state officials working for improvement in domestic violence and they believe that by working together, they can end domestic violence.

Just as bullying has come to the forefront in schools across the nation, there are also many efforts underway to teach teens how to stand up for themselves and others, and how to safely leave an abusive relationship and seek justice for crimes of abuse. Many believe that building awareness of dating violence as well as proactive steps for prevention, will give teens the power to walk away from unhealthy situations.

If you've been recently abused, you should contact a personal injury attorney who can help to ensure that you receive the counseling you need to move forward and hold those responsible accountable for their actions.
